Food Stamp Program Essential for Connecticut Children's Health

The Food Stamp Program helps over 200,000 Connecticut residents to purchase essential foods and groceries every month, and it pumped over $223 million into the Connecticut economy last year. The Farm Bill, which includes funding for Food Stamps, is up for Congressional reauthorization this year. Congress can improve the program by improving the adequacy of benefits, expanding eligibility, and reducing barriers to the program. (April 2007)
