Child Care Center Fiscal Health Survey

Peg Oliveira, PhD

This survey of child care providers in Fairfield County found that enrollment in the child care centers was at capacity, and that payments to the centers are usually on-time, and that the programs' bills and taxes are usually on time. However, most of the sites based their tuition fees on what parents could afford to pay, rather than on the actual cost of care.

The centers expressed in interest in shared administrative services strategies, such as electronic fee collection and collaboration with other programs on substitute pools and health benefits. The report recommends a pilot project in Fairfield County that would help these centers to implement these shared services. (October 2007)
