On March 23, 2010, the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama. Along with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, the legislation is the end product of the decades of debate about health care coverage and intensive policy development in the past year. Many of the provisions of the legislation are scheduled to go into effect in January of 2014, and in the intervening time there is the possibility of improvement. Connecticut currently provides coverage for children, parents, and pregnant women under its HUSKY A and B Program. Connecticut receives federal matching dollars for the coverage. This brief summarizes how coverage in the HUSKY Program has been affected and will be affected by this federal legislation. (April 2010)
